What is Aromatherapy?

Aromatherapy is the use of “aromatic oils in a therapeutic manner” – such use can abe traced back to its original origins in Egypt in 3000BC.

What are the benefits of using essential oils?

Essential oils (if used correctly) can help both enhance and improve the overall wellbeing of a person.

How can essential oils be used in a therapeutic manner?

Massage – one of the oldest and most beneficial uses of essential oils when blended correctly.
Baths – Using either a pure or selected blend of oils using 6-8 drops in a warm bath.
Diffuser/Vaporisation – Using a suitable diffuser – great care must be taken as some essential oils are flammable.
Inhalation – Care must be taken when inhaling – always dilute in warm water – never inhale pure undiluted essential oils as this may cause irritation.

Why is the quality of the essential oils so important?

In order to get the most benefit from using essential oils it is vital that the best quality oils are used (which is our policy at Eve Taylor). Unfortunately some oils on the market are not of good quality or are diluted. Some products on the market are not pure essential oils – but are created as nature identical or synthetic in their composition.

As a result, the therapeutic benefits of using sub-standard oils will at best be very poor, so beware of companies offering lower priced oils as these oils may be of a very poor quality or even diluted in order to spread their use.

What is the shelf life of an essential oil?

As you would expect all essential oils are different, some oils can last longer if unopened compared to others. As a result we would suggest that you contact us direct for a specific oil as the shelf life of an essential oil can vary from between 12 to 24 months once it is used after breaking the seal of a cap.

What are the methods of extraction of essential oils?

Essential oils are mainly extracted using distillation – this involves steam being past through the stems, leaves etc. Some oils are pressed to extract their essential oils – particularly citrus oils, while some oils such as Rose and Jasmine are extracted using a delicate heat process.

Can the effects of aromatherapy also be felt at an emotional level?

Aromatherapy can work at an emotional level, helping to lift depression and sooth nerves, often the aromas that essential oils have can help to bring back memories of long ago – such as childhood.

-Under no circumstances should pure essential oils be applied undiluted directly onto the skin. Never take essential oils internally!
-If you are pregnant suffer from epilepsy or high blood pressure – you should always seek expert advice before using any essential oils
-Some essential oils are photosensitive and should not be used prior to sunbathing or when using a an artificial sunlight products – such as sunbeds

Always consult with a professional if in any doubt whatsoever on the use of essential an essential oil in order to avoid any complication or allergic reaction.
